Hi Sunday School Supporters! (see the end of note for special requests)
Our “Homecoming” class last Sunday, September 9th, was great. The kids were all impressed with our new room and some of the comments were, “It’s so cosy.” “It feels like home.” Isn’t that super?!
Here’s some news about our new program:
Bible Memory Verses Did your Sunday Schooler bring home a Bible Memory Verse last Sunday? If they did, and they practiced it all week, know it by heart and can find it in the Bible, they can get a reward this Sunday. They should bring the verse (for their project folder) and 10¢ for the gumball machine! The gumball will make their mouth happy for a little while, and our hope is that the Bible verse will settle in their heart and pop into their mind whenever they need to remember God’s love, all through their life. Thanks to Carol Sawyer for making the terrific cards. If you have a favourite Bible verse you’d like to share with the children, we’d love to add it to our collection. (If you don’t want your child to have a gumball please let me know – we’ll find an alternative.)
Shepherds The kids’ eyes lit up when I told them that they’ll be running the Sunday School this year! The Grade 8 boys are worth their weight in gold – they’re a real treasure. Eventually everyone will have a special part of our Sunday School program that they’re in charge of, if they want to, and so far our helpers are:
Sticker Shepherd – Rachel G.
Memory Verse Shepherd – Katie T.
Meditation Shepherd - Keita
Banker Shepherd – Andrew
Noah’s Ark Shepherd – Emma M.
Story Shepherd – Daniel, (and hopefully Eric and Brendan too)
Ali Lee will be looking after the little children – welcome back Ali!
Outreach Project The children’s offering will still go towards our local church expenses and the national church outreach division (Mission and Service). But this year we’ve added a special Sunday School Outreach project – Heifer International which is a non-profit organization whose goal is to help end world hunger and poverty through self-reliance and sustainability. They provide animals and training to people in need so that they can become self-sufficient. Our goal is to collect $5,000 to buy a whole Gift Ark! (More info in the weeks to come.)
This week I’d like to ask the Shepherds to come early at 10:00 to set up their stations. I’ll unlock the church so that parents can go in and spend some quiet time with God or their thoughts before the children come up.
And if the Grade 8 boys can manage it (Eric, Daniel and Brendan), could they please come at 9:30, yes 9:30! so that we can practice the story a few times before the other children arrive. The story this week is the Parable of the Ten Lepers, Luke 17:11-19.
Thanks very much, everyone. We’ll see you on Sunday.
