The Board met for a short meeting following worship on Sunday, June 17.
The main news was about property items.
Sunflower Pre-School has received a grant toward the cost of replacing the furnaces in the Christian Education Centre. This is good news, except that the grant would cover only approximately 1/3 of the cost, leaving Capilano to raise more than $10,000 to cover the balance. Nonetheless, this seems like a good opportunity and the Board agreed to pursue one more quote.
We are also trying to obtain quotes to do needed maintenance on the manse. And again there is the possibility of obtaining a dollar-for-dollar matching grant up to $5,000 to assist with this work.
And thirdly, we considered the need to put down new flooring in the upstairs of the CEC. The financing of this needs to be negotiated with Bonnie Bairns.
The end result was the recognition that we will need to undertake some major fund raising in the fall.
The Board also heard that some of the Sunday School and Youth parents had met and were eager to begin changes to the Lounge to set this up in a way more suitable to the SS and Youth programs. The Board was pleased to hear this news, and work will be done during the summer to have this space ready for the fall. We also wondered about doing more advertising through the neighbourhood to connect to the many new families. Possiblilities are an updated "Welcome" banner, dropping flyers at houses, personal invites, etc.
