Hey friends!  Welcome to 2008.  Oh yeah, and...
HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

Hey, what better way to celebrate the first 2 weeks of 2008 than to rock out with the music of Rebel Messiah for a full hour! 

In case you've never heard of us, we will have a bio up online VERY soon, but we'd love for you to come on out to "The Way Youth Worship" at Mount Seymour United Church this Sunday, Jan. 13th, 7:30 - 8:30pm, for what promises to be a very fun and inspiring time.  Our number one goal is to draw a critical mass, and we're relying on all of you to help make that happen. 

One way you can help is by carpooling.  Ask around at your church to see who is interested.  Please invite some friends and some family and join us for fun, fellowship and song on Sunday evening!  Call me if you have any thoughts or questions.  My phone number is 778-389-3357. Youth Group Survivor Challenge - Sept. 23

Hello everyone,

I hope you all had a fantastic summer!  Hopefully everyone is surviving the adjustment to the 'rat race' again, especially those now in high school.

I thought I would update you on what is happening for Capilano United youth group in this neighborhood.

My work life has become increasingly demanding, so I am unable to have the same level of time commitment to the youth group that I had last year.  Simultaneously , the United Church of Canada has hired a youth leader (Brendan Wanderer) to organize the youth for all six United churches of the North Shore. I would still like to be personally involved with the youth group in this neighborhood, but on a more sporadic basis than monthly or bimonthly. I also plan to send regular updates of what Brendan has planned for his weekly youth nights and monthly youth evening services at various United Churches on the North Shore.  For example, Brendan is leading the first youth service for the North Shore churches at Capilano United Church next Sunday evening at 7 pm, to which I encourage you all to attend, especially  because the music and format of the service are much more contemporary and upbeat than traditional  morning services.

I am also holding a "Survivor" theme welcome next Sunday, September 23rd from 3-5 pm. The main purpose is to celebrate the fact that we are all 'surviving' going back to school and all the crazy scedules that go with it. We will also have someone there to discuss a water project for Africa, and we will brainstorm for possible fundraisers.  One possible idea would include a Halloween haunted house at the church, which has been very popular in this neighborhood.  I believe we could raise a significant amount of money while having a lot of fun. We can also discuss the prospects of having another dance, and talk about ideas you might have that are fun or interesting for getting together.

We will continue to invite anyone in grades 7-9 to these events, and if anyone wishes to be taken off the group email list, don't hesitate to contact me.
